The master cleanse diet was created by Stanley Burroughs in 1941. It is a simple but regimented diet to help you cleanse your body of toxins, phlegm and putrid fecal matter. Putrid fecal matter accumulates in the digestive tract because our body cannot digest all the food that we eat. Whole natural foods are not so much the culprit as processed foods, trans fats and artificial sweeteners. These undigested foods can get stuck in the digestive tract and are the perfect breeding ground for harmful bacteria. The master cleanse diet facilitates the passing of this putrid fecal matter and in turn you will be a healthier and happier person. It is recommended to do the diet for at least three days, but preferably ten. Some people do this cleanse for up to a month.

In order to prepare yourself for a diet such as this without solid food you should participate in a in a three day preparatory regimen. On the first day absolve yourself to feeling hungry. You are used to eating three meals per day, so not eating solid food of course will feel different and is something you will get used to. The best way to combat your hunger is to write down your purposes for going on the master cleanse diet so you can remain motivated and not stray from the cleanse. Additionally, on the first day to easy yourself into the cleanse you can eat a normal dinner.

The plan for the second day allows you to eat dinner, but this time do not consume your normal dinner of cooked food and meat. Instead eat a dinner that consists only of raw fruits and vegetables. On the third day, this will be your first day without solid foods. Drink the lemonade as you have done on the first and second days during the day and then for dinner drink fruit or vegetable juice (fresh and organig if possible). The fourth day will be your first day consuming only the master cleanse diet lemonade.

The master cleanse diet is also known as the lemonade diet. This is because you must give up your regular meals and replace them with the prescribed beverage which resembles lemonade. The master cleanse diet beverage consists of fresh water, fresh lemons, organic grade B maple syrup and cayenne pepper. It is recommended to consume at least sixty ounces of the lemonade a day but not exceed more than one hundred and twenty ounces a day.

While you are doing the master cleanse diet you cannot participate in your daily addictions such as cigarette smoking, coffee, sodas, artificial sweeteners and caffeinated teas. These daily habits are part of what is making your body toxic. This toxicity manifests itself as symptoms of disease. Conditions such as sluggishness, bad skin, unclear eyes, arthritis, and inability to concentrate are just a few of the problems toxicity can cause.

As you are engaged in the detoxification processes while doing the master cleanse diet many people experience certain symptoms of withdraw. These symptoms are a natural part of the cleansing process and indicate to you that the master cleanse diet is indeed working to your benefit.
